Awakening

Opening the circle for this month’s dispatch.

Spring is a time of transformation. The barren becomes lush again. New life blooms everywhere. Cold gives way to warmth. Cyclically this mirrors the energy of a new moon waxing towards fullness. It’s the cycle of death into rebirth as life returns.

This is a great time to reflect on what you hope to bring into the next year of your life. Spend time in nature, witnessing the way the natural world moves into beginnings. Notice our plant allies and how they come into the world. Maybe you connect to the mythology surrounding Eostre, the Germanic lunar goddess whose symbolism is echoed deeply in the westernized celebration of Easter.

Journalling can help you set your intentions for this season, the next, or the whole year ahead. Take time to contemplate where you want to go, what you’ve done, and how you will grow and move as the energy of the earth shifts from fallow to bloom. Blooming

Spring altar decoration inspiration.

Spring is a time of expansive energy. Bring that into your altar space by incorporating items that pay homage to the season.

Seedlings - when we think of springtime, we often think of blooming flowers. I am a fan of cut flowers, but spring is where things come to life and cutting stems signals an imminent end. Place your garden seed starts - or some special ones from a plant ally you are hoping to begin working with - on your altar.

Eggs - have long been associated with the Goddess Eostre, and springtime celebrations related to her. They represent new life, fertility and protection. You can layer this symbolism by using egg shells to hold your plant seedlings in place of pots.

Art - Springtime is a master class in creation. Pay homage to creativity by putting artwork on your altar. Your own, a work you admire, or one that’s themed around the season.

Pastel or Green on Green Colours - Colour is a great way to call things in. Often we think of our altar in pieces — the elements of what we place on it — but theming it in an overall colour palette is a powerful way to work your magic. Pastels are associated with this season, or mimic the fresh beauty of the natural world by layering tones of green.

Ribbon - Layer the magic of colour, intention and symbols of the season using ribbons. Easily crafted into flowers, trees or braids, you can work a spell of intention while you transform them into a decoration for your sacred space.
